Kosciusko Community Hospital hosted the Kosciusko Leadership Academy class session on “Health Care in Kosciusko County.”
Steve Miller, CEO, KCH, provided an overview of hospitals, which were originally started by churches. Today, access, quality and cost of health care are all important factors. Future challenges in the health care industry include ObamaCare and technology.
Kurt Carlson, CEO, Bowen Center, discussed the drastic changes in mental health care since the witchcraft trials. Treatment has changed drastically from isolation to community inclusion and engagement. The Bowen Center has continued to grow and develop strategic partnerships. Classes are being held with school, hospital and law enforcement personnel.
Scott Siggerfoos, director of operations, Multi Township EMS, explained that people used to call the funeral home when ill. The funeral directors would don a white coat and transport the person in the ambulance/hearse for treatment. Emergency response has greatly improved over the years. Multi Township EMS is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization that contracts with townships for service. Multi Township is involved in additional areas, such as training, first aid classes, community education and high school basic EMT classes.
The next KLA session will be Tuesday at Zimmer, Building 5, where planning for Kosciusko County will be featured.
KLA is a not-for-profit organization devoted to serving Kosciusko County by encouraging leaders and future leaders to dream and create a better community through white paper projects.[[In-content Ad]]
