By Following is a summary of the key dates and events in the founding and development of Kosciusko Community Hospital:-

Nov. 8, 1967 KCH files articles of incorporation as a private, not-for-profit hospital. Matthew Dalton named president.

March 22, 1969 KCH board of directors conducts its first meeting.

May 5, 1969 Kosciusko County Commissioners approve a $2 million bond issue for the construction of a new hospital.

May 27, 1969 County council approves bond issue.

Aug. 18, 1969 KCH board releases county from bond obliga - tion, relying on private donations and federal grants for construction of 113-bed hospital on city's northeast side.

June 1, 1971 Commissioners create Hospital Authority.

Aug. 30, 1971 Hospital Authority approves KCH's construction of new hospital.

Dec. 7, 1971 KCH kicks off $1.5 million fund drive for new hospital.

Dec. 13, 1971 Hazel J. Murphy, owner of Murphy Medical Center, Warsaw's privately owned hospital, files a $13.5 million suit against KCH and the Hospital Authority over decision to construct new hospital.

Aug. 23, 1973 KCH files $12,125,000 counter-suit against MMC.

Apr. 29, 1974 KCH and MMC reach agreement to withdraw each suit and "bury hatchet."

May 23, 1976 New 113-bed hospital dedicated.

July 2, 1977 MMC closes doors for the last time.

Oct. 26, 1978 MMC real estate at Winona Avenue and Buffalo Street sold in sheriff's sale.

Feb. 1984 KCH adds CAT Scan services to hospital.

June 1984 KCH adds Ambulatory Surgery Unit.

Sept. 1984 KCH announces $1.5 million expansion of emergency department, outpatient surgery and diagnostic imaging services. [[In-content Ad]]
