NORTH MANCHESTER - Karl Dean Poland, 63, of Zephryhills, Fla., died at 11 a.m. Sept. 3, 2010, in Gulfside Center For Hospice Care, Zephryhills, after an extended illness.

He was born June 12, 1947, in Warsaw, to Howard Delmar and Mary Louise Metzger Poland. On June 28, 1968, he married Sharon Lee Bechtol, who survives.

He graduated from Manchester High School in 1965, and attended Manchester College, North Manchester, where he received a bachelor's degree in business administration in 1969. He resided in Huntington until 1990 when he was transferred to Florida for work. He worked at GTE (now Frontier Communications) for 29 years, retiring in 1998.

Also surviving are two sons, Troy (and spouse Leah Howard) Poland and Travis Poland; three grandchildren; a great-grandson; his mother, Mary Louise Jenkins; a stepbrother, Paul (and spouse Cheryl) Jenkins; a stepsister, Janet (and spouse Bob) Glick; and a brother-in-law, Mike (and spouse Debbie) Bechtol. He was preceded in death by his father, his stepfather, a son, Timothy Poland and a daughter, Karla Poland.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at McKee Mortuary, North Manchester, with Pastor J.P. Freeman officiating. Entombment will be at a later date at Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash.

Calling is two hours prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home.
