Kosciusko Runners' Association will manage the 15th annual Run in the Woods, a 5k run and walk and 10k run, Saturday.

This year they will be adding a kid's fun run. In the past 14 years the race has started and ended at the Kosciusko Community Fairgrounds.

This year, however, the race will start at 9 a.m. and finish at the Senior Center at Winona Lake Park.[[In-content Ad]]All of the proceeds will go to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society's Team-In-Training Program.

Also new this year will be the timing process. KRA has received grants and sponsorship from the K21 Health Foundation and Lakeside Fitness of Syracuse, according to Bill Crane, Kosciusko Runners' Association director. This has enabled them to purchase an accurate race timing system called RFID Accu-Chip USA.

KRA is a non-profit running association with a two-fold purpose: It helps charities to raise much-needed funding in the community, while providing a real lifestyle change to take place for men and women, and boys and girls.

"Running and walking has long been proven to help people increase their level of health to new maximums," Crane said.

Some of the charities KRA has helped include Combined Community Services, the YMCA, Warsaw Police Department's Victim's Assistance as well as the DARE 5k May 29.

Other grants have been received from the Dr. Dane and Mary Louise Miller Foundation, and from REMC through the Kosciusko Community Foundation. These grants made it possible to purchase a secure trailer for taking the equipment to different events.
