MENTONE - With appreciation, the Tippecanoe Valley School Board approved a $50,000 grant from the Kosciusko 21st Century Foundation Monday night.

Assistant Superintendent Brett Boggs thanked the Foundation for the grant to assist in the replacement of the eight tennis courts on the campus of the high school and middle school. He said the letter from the foundation's president, Willis Alt, was received in July notifying Valley that the proposal for the grant was awarded.

Boggs said few facilities are available in Kosciusko County for public use at all times. The Valley tennis courts fit the Foundation's mission by providing the facility to promote the health and wellness of many Kosciusko residents. In addition to being available for use by Valley students in grades 6-12 during the school day, public access to the courts is unlimited and often continues into the evening on the four lighted courts.

Once the project is completed, Boggs said more information and photos will be released.

Board President Dave O'Brien thanked Boggs for writing the proposal for the grant.

Extracurricular assignments for teachers and staff for the 2006-07 school year were presented to the board for consideration. School board member Mark Wise said he wanted to discuss one individual on the list further.

Superintendent Dr. Daniel Kramer said they could approve the list at the board's next meeting if the board wanted to discuss the issue at the executive session which already was planned for another matter after the board's Monday meeting. The board tabled the assignments.

It was not indicated which individual Wise wanted to discuss. Extracurricular assignments include athletic coaches and assistants as well as academic club advisers and directors.

In other business, the school board:

• Approved teacher assignments for the 2006-07 school year.

• Approved Letitia Leininger as media assistant at Akron Elementary School.

• Accepted the resignation of Mindy Imhausen, English teacher, TVHS.

• Approved "Getting Ready for Kindergarten" contracts for Kathy Good and Deb Tillman, both Akron; and Sandy Moriarty, Jennifer Smith and Brenda Vanlaningham, all Mentone.

• Announced the budget hearing is Aug. 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the board meeting room at Mentone Elementary School.

Budget adoption and the board's regular September meeting is Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m. The regular October meeting is Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m.

• Approved a revision to school board policy regarding fixed asset inventory and accounting policy. The revision was reviewed by the school board at their July meeting.

• Reviewed revisions to school board policy regarding policies relating to instructional personnel, and full-time and classified personnel retirement plans.

Kramer said the changes relating to instructional personnel are language adjustments to reflect Valley's current policies and are not changes.

The changes regarding retirement plans are clarifying who full-time personnel are.

The board will vote on the policy revisions at their Sept. 11 meeting.

• Approved a conflict-of-interest statement for board Vice President Bryan Murphy.
