ROCHESTER - Julia Mae Brown Adley, 85, of 340 E. 18th St., Rochester, died at 5:55 p.m. Dec 6, 2009, in Hickory Creek, Rochester.

She was born June 21, 1924, in Millington, Ill., to Tommy and Mabel Brown. On June 22, 1946, she married Lloyd H. Adley, who died Dec. 19, 1993.

She graduated from Elkhart High School in June 1942. After graduation, she worked for an insurance company. From January 1943 until September 1944, she was an inventory control clerk for the musical instrument company C.G. Conn, Elkhart. In October 1944, she enlisted in the Women's Army Corps. After completing basic training in Des Moines, Iowa, she was a clerk typist in the supply division at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio, and was discharged in the summer of 1946. Moving to Terre Haute, she was a secretary at Indiana State Teachers College and attended several classes. In 1951, she moved to Rochester where she was a homemaker. She was a member of Rochester's St. Paul's United Brethren Church, which later merged to become Trinity United Methodist. She was active in the Come Join Us class and was a member of the Service Circle. She was secretary at Grace United Methodist Church from November 1966 to September 1968, then Rochester High School until her retirement in October 1975. She was a member of Rochester's Beta Mu Tri-Kappa Sorority. She was a resident of Hickory Creek for five years.

Surviving are three children, Marsha (and spouse John) Roberts, Mary Anne (and spouse Mark) Heishman and Carl (and spouse) Cathy Adley, all of Rochester; grandchildren; great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers and a granddaughter.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Good Family Funeral Home, Rochester, with the Revs. Buck Padilla and Will Lawson Sr. officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery.

Calling is from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.
