Judges

I have received close to 200 stories from people who have child support or visitation problems. I have seen the problems from every side. I have researched laws. I have read reports about these issues. I have talked with prosecutors. I have received letters from congressmen and senators. They know we have problems. That is clear to everyone. No one will argue the fact that our child support and visitation system has problems. So what can we do about it?

We can hire more staff. We can give our county offices the best computer system in the country. Prosecutors can work 24 hours a day. We can spend our life savings on lawyers. The government can make the strictest laws to prosecute or protect parents, depending on the situation. We can do everything possible to change the way child support and visitation is handled. But you know what? Not one of these things will work because every single issue has one thing in common. Everything is left up to the judge.

If a judge wants to allow a deadbeat to be a deadbeat, he can do that. If a judge wants to send a hardworking parent to jail for missing a few payments after he/she gets laid off, he can do that. If a judge does not want to prosecute a custodial parent who has not allowed visitation for 13 years, he can do that.

My petition will get the attention from our government. The congressmen, senators and president will read all of our different problems. They will do all they can to help us. But the one thing they cannot do is make our judges do their jobs right. That problem is left up to us to fix.

At the next election, I urge everyone to vote against our current judges. If the next judges in office are the same way, vote them out of office, too. We need to get judges who are willing to step up to the challenge of treating people the way they should be treated. If a person is a true deadbeat, the judge should treat them as one. If a person is not a deadbeat, the judge should not treat them like one. If a parent has not seen his/her children in months or years, the judge should do everything in his power to fix this. Judges are the biggest problem in this whole mess. Only we can fix that.

In the mean time, keep writing to me with your problems. There are still other things that can be fixed by our government. They will listen to us. If you have a problem with child support or visitation, if you know someone who does, or if you would simply like to help, write to me at [email protected]
