Joyce Eloise Cain Moore, 83, Winona Lake, died at 2:53 p.m. May 22, 2014, in Grace Village Healthcare, Winona Lake.
She was born July 19, 1930, in Fort Wayne, to Benjamin H. and Lona B. Randall Cain. On Aug. 27, 1950, in Dayton, Ohio, she married Bruce R. Moore, who died June 1, 2013.
She was a 1948 graduate of Oakwood High School, Dayton, Ohio, and of Taylor College in 1953 with a bachelor’s degree in English literature. She taught phonics and literacy with Wycliffe Bible Translators in Ecuador for 38 years, retiring in 1998.
She was a member of Highland Park Church, Kokomo. She and Bruce were missionaries in south Texas from 1951 until they were accepted for missionary service in 1953 with Wycliffe Bible Translators and left for Ecuador in 1956. For over 35 years they translated the New Testament of the Bible and an abridgment of the Old Testament into the language of the Tsachi people of western Ecuador. Although the Moores retired in 1998, she continued consultancy work with Wycliffe from their home in Dallas, Texas.
Surviving are two daughters, Rebecca (and spouse German) Rhon, Ecuador, and Carol Shaw, Garland, Texas; two sons, Stephen (and spouse Princene) Moore, Warsaw, and the Rev. Paul (and spouse Karisse) Moore, Silver City, N.M.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Dr. Jarvis Cain, Salisbury, Md. She was also preceded in death by an infant brother, Randall David Cain, who died in 1927.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at The Country Church, 2951 E. 9B, Bourbon, with Pastor Ed Vasicek of Highland Park Church, Kokomo, officiating. Burial is in Ecuador.
Calling is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw.
