Joyce Elaine Stauffer, 75, of 1104 Court St., Winona Lake, died at 8:35 p.m. Jan. 16, 2008, in Gardens at Lake City, Warsaw.

She was born May 14, 1932, in Indianapolis, to Carl and Clarice English Lipp. On July 30, 1955, she married John Robert Stauffer, who survives.

She was an assistant professor Emerita of English at Indiana University-Purdue University, Fort Wayne, where she served for 28 years, retiring in 1996. She was director of writing during the last nine years of her career at IPFW. She was a graduate of Southport High School, Indianapolis; earned a bachelor's degree from Ball State University; a master's degree in education from St. Francis University; and a master of arts in English from Purdue University. She was a teacher and librarian in the Fort Wayne Community Schools prior to joining the IPFW faculty. She was a resident of Kosciusko and Allen counties for the past 57 years. She loved to travel and saw much of the U.S., Canada and Europe. Her favorite location was Lake Orta in the northern Italian Lake district. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Fort Wayne.

Also surviving are a son, Dr. Robert (and spouse Carol) Stauffer, Joplin, Mo.; two daughters, Lisa (and spouse Brad) Blackwell and Dianna (and spouse Kevin) Ramirez, both of Danville, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and a twin sister, Carol (and spouse George) Gamble, Rancho Paios Verdes, Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service will be at a later date.
