NAPPANEE – Jonas L. Kuhns, 77, died unexpectedly at 6:28 p.m. Dec. 7, 2011, in the emergency room at Community  Hospital, Bremen.

He was born Dec. 19, 1933, in Marshall County, to Levi and Edna Yoder Kuhns. On May 17, 1956, in Kosciusko County, he married Ella Troyer, who survives.

He was a retired farmer and a member of Old Order Amish Church.

Also surviving are four sons, Henry Kuhns, Melvin (and spouse Emma) Kuhns and Wilbur Kuhns (and Leanna Lehman) all of Nappanee; five daughters: Velma (and spouse Milo) Hilty, Smyrna, Maine; Alma (and spouse Jerry) Helmuth, Nappanee; Esther (and spouse Ervin) Hochstetler and Rosie (and spouse Caleb) Stoll, all of Unity, Maine; and Elsie (Jonathon) Miller, Middlebury; 55 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Menno Kuhns, Drakesville, Iowa, and Ivan, Edwin and Omar Kuhns, all of Nappanee; and four sisters, Wilma (and spouse Henry) Mast and Fannie (and spouse Albert) Miller, all of Nappanee; Carrie (and spouse Andy) Hochstetler, Lagrange; and Lizzie (and spouse Vernon) Bontrager, Mio, Mich. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Hannah Helmuth and Floyd Kuhns, and two brothers, Lester and Manasses Kuhns.

Services will be at 9 a.m. Sunday at the Jerry Helmuth residence, 536 Beech Road, Nappanee, with Bishop Alvin Borkholder and the Home Ministry officiating. Burial will be in Borkholder Cemetery
Calling is from 2 p.m. today and all day Saturday at the Jerry Helmuth residence.
