He was born Feb. 6, 1924, in Leesburg, to Frederick Joseph and Nellie Mae Roberts Anglin. On March 8, 1952, in South Bend, he married Norma J. Murphy, who survives. He was a 1942 graduate of Leesburg High School, where he played basketball all four years. He attended Manchester College in 1948 before entering Indiana College of Mortuary Science, Indianapolis. He graduated as a funeral director and embalmer in 1950. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps Oct. 9, 1945, in Lowry Field, Colo., serving during World War II as a flight engineer/crew chief for six years on B-17 and B-24 bombers. He served in Germany for three years. Sgt. John W. Anglin was honorably discharged after his second tour of duty April 28, 1948, at Camp Kilmer, N.J. He moved to South Bend in the early 1950s and then back to Leesburg in 1962. He was a funeral director and embalmer for Welsheimer and Hickey funeral homes and later during his retirement years, Titus Funeral Home. In 1952 he entered the claims side of the insurance business with a total of 36 years in claims service upon his retirement. He began his insurance career as a claims adjuster for Western Adjustment and Aetna Insurance and claims manager for Westfield Insurance Co., South Bend. He retired from Westfield Insurance Co., after 20 years as claims manager. He owned a bulk milk route after retirement and also was a claims representative for Farmers Mutual Relief Association before full retirement in 1986. He and his wife were instrumental in organizing Cardinal Center for services to the handicapped. He was member of Milford Lodge 148 since 1949; Scottish Rite of South Bend since 1952; and the American Legion Post 49. He was a member, past board member, trustee and usher for many years at Leesburg United Methodist Church. He was president of the South Bend Insurance Adjusters Association in 1961; a blood donor for the American Red Cross; and helped his wife establish and transport Amish volunteers and donors for five years to and from blood mobiles. Also surviving are three daughters, Deborah Anglin and Denise Bronsing, both of Warsaw, and Diane (and spouse Bruce) Gescheidle, Holiday, Fla.; five grandchildren: Bryan Bronsing, Warsaw; Lori (and spouse Roman) Martinez, Bedford; Beth (and spouse Brack) Thomas, Wilmington, Del.; Lisa Gescheidle, Holiday; and Sarah (and spouse John) Nice, Land O Lakes, Fla.; four great-granddaughters: Alexys, Madelyn, Lexus and Isabella; and four great-grandsons: Jordan, Elias, Christopher and Max. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Marshall Wayne and Herman “Wimpy” Fredrick Anglin. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, officiated by Pastor Don Greulich. Burial will be in Leesburg Cemetery. Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
