He was born Sept. 7, 1932, in Pittsburgh, Pa., to John W. Sr. and Edith M. Brown Alexander.
On Aug. 7, 1953, in Pittsburgh, he married Carol Bonner, who survives in North Webster.
He was a 1950 graduate of Langley High School, Pittsburgh. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on Jan. 8, 1953, in Pittsburgh, and served during the Korean War. A/1C John W. Alexander Jr. was honorably discharged Dec. 10, 1956, from Parks Air Force Base, Calif. He lived in Kosciusko County since 1971. He was a sales agent for Prudential Insurance for 28 years, retiring in 1987.
He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Warsaw; lay leader within the United Methodist Church for many years; member of American Legion Post 253, North Webster; member of Mizpah Shrine Temple, Fort Wayne; member of American Legion Post 496, Douglas Pipes and Drums and Masonic Lodge, all in Pittsburgh. He was a very talented drummer who entertained with Frank Greco at local establishments; life member of Fellowship of Christian Magicians since 1973; sold and performed Christian magic for many years; would give a flannel shirt off his back to someone truly in need; was well known for freely giving advice; devoted family man who truly loved his wife, and even was able to secretly plan and pull off a surprise party for their 60th wedding anniversary.
Also surviving are four daughters: Joyce (and spouse Harry) Price, Fort Mohave, Ariz.; Judy (and spouse Mike) Wilson, North Webster; Janice (and spouse Mark) Fife, Fort Wayne; Joan (and spouse Tom) Anderson, Leesburg; four sons: Jay (and spouse Jeanett) Alexander, Urbana; Jeffrey (and spouse Gayle) Alexander, Minooka, Ill.; James (and spouse Wendy) Alexander, Warsaw; and John (and spouse Char) Alexander, Milford; 21 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, the Rev. Robert (and spouse Gail) Alexander, Fredericksburg, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Warsaw, with Pastor David Hummel, Trinity United Methodist Church, Warsaw, and Rev. Robert Alexander, South Vernon United Methodist Church, South Vernon, Ohio, officiating. A broken wand memorial service will be at 7:30 p.m. today at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with military honors conducted by North Webster American Legion Post 253.
Calling is from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.
