COLUMBIA CITY – John Riley Hicks, 77, of Larwill, died at 11 p.m. April 16, 2013, in his daughter’s residence in Warsaw.
He was born Sept. 29, 1935, in Prestonsburg, Ky., to Ell and Allie Shepard Hicks. On Oct. 29, 1954, in Warsaw, he married Wilma Jean Albertson, who preceded him in death.
He moved to Kosciusko County from Prestonsburg in 1944 and in 1971 he moved to Larwill. He spent his winters in Florida. He graduated from Sidney High School in 1954 and served in the U.S. Army. He worked at General Electric for 25 years and Lockheed Martin for five years, retiring in 2000. He was a past volunteer fireman of Claypool Fire Department and was a farmer in his early years.
Surviving are a son, Gene (and spouse Mariann) Hicks, Columbia City; two daughters, Jenny (and spouse Leon) Warner and Katrina Reynolds, all of Warsaw; his mother, Allie Hicks, Sebring, Fla.; three brothers: Tom B. (and spouse Jewell) Hicks, Warsaw; William C. (and spouse Cora) Hicks, Sebring, Fla.; and Jack M. (and spouse Joyce) Hicks, Pierceton; a sister, Dorothy Pyle, Sebring; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a daughter and a granddaughter.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, Columbia City, with Pastor Randall Brashear officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton, with military rites by members of Whitley County Korean War Veteran’s Honor Guard.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
