AKRON – John R. Nichols, 76, rural Claypool, and Sun City, Ariz., died May 8, 2016, at the Arrowhead Hospital, Glendale, Ariz.
He was born Oct. 29, 1939, in Wabash County, to Ralph and G. Eunice Metzger Nichols. On June 14, 1959, in Silver Lake, he married Dixie Polk, who survives in Claypool.
He was a dairy farmer and worked for 10 years at R.R. Donnelley & Sons of Warsaw, retiring in 1998. He was a 1958 graduate of Claypool High School. He was a member of the Silver Creek Church of God. He and his wife in later years lived in Reno, Nev., and Sun City, Ariz.
Also surviving are a daughter, Penny (and spouse David) Miller, Warsaw; a son, Robert Nichols (and significant other Tami Ennis), Smyrna, Ga.; two grandchildren, JD and Aly Miller; five great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, Shannan (and spouse Chris) Deneve and Aaron Miller; a sister, Cynthia (and spouse Ron) Hoppas, San Marcos, Calif.; and two stepbrothers, Richard (and spouse Ruth) Jamison, Aurora, Ill., and Byron Jamison, Bolder City, Nev. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Silver Creek Church of God, Silver Lake, with Pastor Tom Craig officiating. Burial will be in Silver Creek Cemetery, Silver Lake.
Calling is from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Silver Creek Church of God.
Arrangements are entrusted to Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron.
