John L. Reed, 68, of Silver Lake, died at 5:45 p.m. Feb. 27, 2011, in his residence.

He was born May 18, 1942, in Garrett, to Ervin Ernest and Martha J. Greenawalt Reed. On Aug. 3, 1974, in Fort Wayne, he married Sharon Phillips Meisner, who survives.

They moved to Silver Lake in 2003. He retired from Navistar, Fort Wayne, and Springfield, Ohio, after 30 years of service and delivered newspapers for Times-Union, Warsaw. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Warsaw. He was an avid fisherman and fly tyer. He was a devoted father and grandfather and a very loving and caring husband. He had a heart of gold and never knew a stranger. He was a giving man to those less fortunate. He went to the Bahamas in 2002, to help with the Food for the Poor organization.

Also surviving are a daughter, Ann (and spouse Don) Wiesehan Jr., Mentone; two sons, Brian (and spouse Laurie) Meisner, Alexandria, Va., and Christopher (and spouse Rachel) Meisner, Fort Wayne; five grandchildren, Zachary, Dusty, Delaney, Dylan and Noah; two sisters, Marilyn Kay (and spouse Charles) McNall, Grabill, and Judy (and spouse Harold) Kleeman, Garrett; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Warsaw, with Pastor Stuart Floyd officiating. Burial will be private.

McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw, is in charge of arrangements.
