He was born June 17, 1937, in Rochester, to Everett and Bertha McGee Ashelman.
He retired from the Kosciusko County Highway Department and also worked for Uniroyal and the Warsaw City Street Department. He was an U.S. Marine veteran and a member of Oak Grove Community Church, Warsaw.
Surviving are two brothers, Jerry (and spouse Janet) Beaird, Rochester, and Cyrus “Ed” Beaird, Kewanna; and a stepbrother, James O’Connor, Florida. He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Athens Cemetery with the Rev. Doug Lemon officiating.
Calling is from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester.
