AKRON - John Harmon "Jack" Hyatt, 71, of 36 Harbor Oak Drive, Fruitland Park, Fla., died at 3:40 p.m. Sept. 5, 2007, in Orlando Regional Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 13, 1935, in Three Rivers, Mich., to John Russell Jr. and Juanita Herman Higgins Hyatt. On Sept. 23, 2000, in Akron United Methodist Church, he married Norma L. Swihart Hammond, who survives.

He retired from the Miami Fire Dept. and was a driver for Phillips Buick, Leesburg, Fla. He was a North Miami (Fla.) High School graduate and a member of American Legion, National Rifle Association and Florida Army National Guard.

Also surviving are two daughters, Bonnie Frye, Bristol, and Laurie Hyatt; a stepdaughter, Monica Collings, Akron; a stepson, Terry (and wife Rachel) Hammond, Fort Wayne; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; a sister, Janice Trott, Griffin, Ga.; and a brother, Rick Karr, Jackson, Ga.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with Pastor Terry Canfield officiating. Burial will be private Thursday at Riverside Cemetery, Three Rivers.

Calling is from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
