He was born Feb. 22, 1923, in Indianapolis, to Isabella May and Cyril Doyle, but his "Dad" was Joseph F. Sanburn Sr. On Nov. 21, 1942, he married Patsy D. Albertson, who survives.
A lifetime Warsaw resident, he was a former truck driver for Midwest Emery of Chicago, Ill. In 1986, he retired from Dalton Foundries of Warsaw after 30 years of service as a maintenance journeyman technician. He was a member of Dutchtown Brethren Church, Warsaw. He also owned and operated Doyle's Camper Rentals at Jellystone Park, Pierceton, and John's Truck Topper Sales, Warsaw, for many years. He was a member of the John C. Peterson Post 49 of the American Legion, Warsaw. He faithfully served his country in the US Army in World War II as a Private 1st Class in the 481st Anti-Aircraft Artillery Weapons Battalion, and on June 6, 1944, he landed on Omaha Beach, Normandy, France.
Also surviving are three daughters: Janet (and spouse Wayne) Ginter and Teresa (and spouse Dennis) Miller, all of Warsaw, and Nancy (and spouse George) Barkman, Chesnee, S.C.; two sons, John G. Doyle Jr., Warsaw, and Thomas (and spouse Kim) Doyle, Noblesville; a brother, Joe (and spouse Marsha) Sanburn Jr., Warsaw; a sister, Peggy Holloway, Warsaw; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with Pastor Jack Worth officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with military honors by American Legion Post 49, Warsaw, and Veterans of Foreign Warsaw Post 1126.
Calling is from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
