John F. Smith, 77, Warsaw, passed away at 5:10 p.m. June 4, 2015, in his home.
He was born March 19, 1938, in Mentone, to Roy and Bertha Holderman Smith. On Dec. 3, 1979, in Warsaw, he married Gelenia Diane Young, who survives in Warsaw.
He was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County. He worked at C&I Medtronic for 21 years and retired in 1994 as an electrical mechanic.
He was a past trustee of VFW Men’s Auxiliary Post 1126; a past trustee of Eagles; member of Kosciusko County Saddle Club and known to horse people as grandpa Smith. He also was a past director of Francis Slocum Trail Riders and a shuffleboard player. He also loved camping and computer games.
Also surviving are two sons, John Stephen (and spouse Laura) Smith, Sandwich, Ill., and Bruce A. Smith, Warsaw; a daughter, Melissa (and spouse Tom) Sorg, Kimmel; a stepson, Steven (and spouse Penny) Thomas, Warsaw; two stepdaughters, Desiree (and spouse Darcy) Whetstone, Etna Green, and Ramona (and spouse Robert) Peterson, Warsaw; a sister, Carol (and spouse Mike) Engle, Pierceton; a brother, Charles (and spouse Diane) Smith, Claypool; 15 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Smith, and a sister, Wanda Smith.
Services will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Titus Funeral Home, 2000 E. Sheridan St., Warsaw, with Pastor Bob Jarboe, Kosciusko Home Care and Hospice chaplain, officiating.
Calling is from 2 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
