PLYMOUTH – John Eugene Schmidt, 75, Tyner,  went home at 7:55 a.m. Oct. 5, 2015.
He was born Dec. 7, 1939, in Delong, to Frank and Marie Dillenberg Schmidt. On Sept. 30, 1961, he married Judy Ibs, who survives. They celebrated 54 years of marriage.
He was a hard worker all his life. He was a dairy farmer and member of the Marshall County Dairy Association. He was one of the original members of the Polk Township Volunteer Fire Department that started in 1976. He was known for driving Engine/Pumper #1 and was awarded Fireman of the year in 1995. Raising a family, farming and volunteering were his life.
Also surviving are his wonderful children, Helen Schmidt; Lisa Daughtery; John (and spouse Loretta) Schmidt; Rita (and spouse Fred) Lemert; James (and spouse April) Schmidt; Sharon Schmidt; and Gerrie Schmidt; son-in-law, Wayne Pete; his adorable grandchildren: JT, Alyssa, Brittany, Evan, Abby, Katie, Elizabeth and Haley; step-grandchildren, Kayla, Danielle and Hannah; brothers and sisters, Margaret Stukenborg; Joe Schmidt; Tom (and spouse Rhea) Schmidt; Rose Schmidt; Cathy Eley (and Frank Foster); sisters-in-law, Betty (and spouse Richard) Jordan; Regina Martz; Diane Schmidt; Carol Schmidt; and Anita Schmidt; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Schmidt Pete; his parents, Frank and Marie Schmidt; his brothers, Paul, Jim, Bill and Rick Schmidt; a brother-in-law, Bernard Stukenborg; and sister-in-law, Pat Schmidt.
A memorial service in honor of John will be held at the Van Gilder Funeral Home at 4 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Rick Davenport officiating.
A time of visiting with the Schmidt family will be  from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday at the Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth, IN 46563.
