He was born Feb. 1, 1925, in Fort Wayne, to Hollis Lyon and Esther Bierhaus Logue. In 1950 he married Virginia Shorter, who survives in Reston.
Educated in the Fort Wayne public schools, he received a rector scholarship to DePauw University. He was a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity and Duzer Du, a theater organization. He also served on DePauw’s debate team and was a member of Delta Sigma Ro. In 1947 he graduated with honors, receiving a bachelor’s degree in economics. In 1947 he went to the University of Michigan law school. In 1950 he received his JD degree.
He joined Lloyd Hartzler in the general practice of law in 1951, and in 1955 he was sworn in as an assistant U.S. Attorney. In 1957 he left to join the Warsaw law firm of Graham, Rasor, Eschbach and Harris. He was named Warsaw City Attorney in 1961. In 1966 he left the firm, accepting the position of trust officer at First National Bank of Goshen. In 1969 he joined the Chicago office of the Bureau of Public Debt, and, when the office moved to Parkersburg, W.Va., he went as acting assistant chief counsel. In 1975 he was transferred to the Washington office to be attorney in charge. He continued in that position until promoted to assistant chief counsel, retiring in 1994.
He served 28 years in the U.S. Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard. In 1961, his unit was called to active duty as a result of tensions caused by construction of the Berlin Wall. He was deployed to Chambly Air Base in France, where he served as staff judge advocate. His reserve assignments included Grissom and Rickenbacker Air Bases and Preventive Law and Legal Assistance at the Pentagon. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1978, receiving the Meritorious Service Award.
He was a life member of the Optimists and past president of the Fort Wayne Optimist Club. He also helped organize the Warsaw Optimist Club and was its first president.
Also surviving are two sons, John Richard (and spouse Loretta) Logue, Moorpark, Calif. and David (and spouse Jennifer) Logue, Quincy, Mass.; a daughter, Susan (and spouse Kevin) Koster, Woodbridge, Va.; and three grandchildren.
