He was born Aug. 5, 1926, in Athens, to Frank O. and Fay Kindig Funk. On Oct. 1, 1949, in Pierceton, he married Rosamond “Rose” Dahm, who died Dec. 26, 2004. On May 9, 2009, in Goshen, he married Sharon Huffman Redman, who survives.
An Indiana State Trooper for 21 years, he achieved the rank of 1st sergeant of the Ligonier District. He also was a personnel manager at NIBCO and as a realtor for Century 21, Bill Long Associates. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church; Knights of Columbus; Maple City Kiwanis Club; the Elks, where he went through all of the chairs twice; and Pioneers of the State Police, where he served as treasurer. He also served as a life member of the Goshen Salvation Army Board and served on the traffic safety committee.
Also surviving are two daughters, Regina (and spouse Jim) Jasiewicz, South Bend, and Michelle (and spouse Michael) Wantz, Goshen; five stepchildren: Michael (and spouse Rhonda) Marganti; Mark Marganti; Karen Mitchell; Kathi (and spouse Tim) Irons; and Teresa (and spouse Jay) Cirks; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 17 step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Dean (and spouse Pat) Funk; and two sisters, Norma Delaney and Joanne Duda. He also was preceded in death by his parents; two infant daughters, Pamala Sue and Rebecca Marie; and a great-grandson, Willis Wantz.
A funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with the Rev. Fathers Anthony Steinacker and Christophe Smith officiating. Burial will be in West Goshen Cemetery.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, when a 5:30 p.m. rosary will be recited.
