COLUMBIA CITY – John C. Bucher, 69, Columbia City, died at 7:08 a.m. Oct. 5, 2012, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Columbia City, where he had been a resident for the past week and a half. He was born June 22, 1943, in Rochester, to Daniel M. and Barbara J. Feverda Bucher. On Sept. 2, 1962, he married Karen S. Heckaman. They made their home at Diamond Lake and later Roann before moving to Whitley County where they have resided for the past 44 years. His formative years were spent in Silver Lake. He graduated from Silver Lake High School. He spent his work career with the telephone company now known as Century Link. He was a service and repair technician with 40 years of service. He retired in 2006. His memberships include Columbia City United Methodist Church and the Gideon’s. Also surviving are two daughters, Monica (and spouse Todd) Bouck, Woodsboro, Texas, and Ann (and spouse Scott) Hill, Columbia City; one son, Daniel (and spouse Anita) Bucher, South Whitley; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill (and spouse Jacki) Bucher, North Manchester, and Jerry (and spouse Janice) Bucher, Michigan; two sisters, Judy (and spouse Kent) French, Silver Lake, and Roberta (and spouse Jim) Estes and a stepmother, Betty Scott, Akron. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Columbia City United Methodist Church, 605 Forest Parkway, Columbia City. Calling is from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, and one hour prior to the service at the church. ***** Memorials may be made to Columbia United Methodist Church or the church’s helpline.
