SYRACUSE – John Blackport, 77, Syracuse, passed away Sept. 13, 2014, in Parkview Regional Hospital, Fort Wayne.
He was born Aug. 5, 1937, in Goshen, to Jacob and Cleo Moist Blackport. On March 9, 1957, he married Dorothy Mast, who preceded him in death in 1999. On June 8, 2000 he married Doris England, who preceded him in 2010.
He lived in the Syracuse area since 1953, coming from Goshen. He retired as a lab technician for Syracuse Rubber after 41 years. He was a member of the Richville United Methodist church.
Surviving are two daughters, Becky (and spouse Ken) Schmitt, Goshen, and Marsha (and spouse Gary) Weaver, North Webster; one stepdaughter, Deborah (and spouse Harvey) Miller, Syracuse; two stepsons, Dennis Ringler and Douglas (and spouse Cheryl) Ringler, all of Syracuse; four grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; 16 step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Marlene Andrews, Syracuse. He was also preceded in death by a son.­
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Eastlund Funeral Home, Syracuse. Burial is in Elkhart Prairie Cemetery, Goshen.
Calling is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
