SOUTH BEND – JoAnn Shively Shirk Bruland, 81, South Bend,  passed away at 10:53 p.m. July 12, 2015, in her residence.
She was born May 13, 1934, in Nappanee, to the late Warren A. and Leona Harter Shively. On Aug. 25, 1955, in Nappanee, she married Milton Shirk, who preceded her in death Feb. 27, 1997. They were blessed with three children. On Aug. 22, 1998, in South Bend, she married Hal Bruland, who also preceded her in death July 18, 2013.
She lived in the South Bend area since 1998. She was a graduate of Nappanee High School, where she formed several lifelong friendships, and attended college at Indiana University, Bloomington. She spent 11 happy years at Kohl's where she formed many wonderful friendships with her co-workers. She was a past member of the Order of Eastern Star of Indiana, Nappanee, and attended Evangel Heights United Methodist Church, South Bend.  
Survivors are: two sons, Mitch Shirk, Mishawaka, and Brooks (and spouse Angie) Shirk, Warsaw; her daughter, Amy Shirk, South Bend; two step-sons, Mark Bruland, Santa Barbara, Calif., and Barry Bruland, Sarasota, Fla.; five granddaughters: Whitney, Taylor, Westley (and spouse Sean), Casey and Jamelyn; one step-grandchild, Alexis; a great-grandchild due in August; two step-great grandchildren; a sister, Pegge (and spouse Tom) Downs, Scottsdale, Ariz.; a nephew, Patrick McGrann, Colorado; and niece Lissie (and spouse Ronnie) Villanueva, Ariz.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. July 25 at Evangel Heights United Methodist Church, 114 N. Ironwood Drive, South Bend, with Pastor Pat Sommers officiating.
Calling is at 10 a.m. July 25 at the church.
