JoAnn S. Whitaker, 75, of South Whitley, passed away at 3:50 a.m.  July 27, 2011, in her residence.

She was born July 10, 1936, in Manton, Ky., to Lee and Nelis Howard Stephens. On Dec. 6, 1965, in Claypool, she married Aaron Richardson, who preceded her in death.

She was a resident of South Whitley for seven years and formerly resided in Burket. She was a nurse’s aide for Mason Healthcare and Rehabilitation, Warsaw. She attended First Freewill Baptist Church of Kosciusko County,  Claypool.

Surviving are her stepchildren, Dallas, Darrell  and Joyce Richardson; two sisters, Virginia Weber and Hanceford Layne; a brother, Rabin Stephens; 13 step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Holt and Talmadge Stephens, and sisters, Thelma Miller and Hazel Yates.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw, with Pastor Terry Bradford officiating. Burial will be in Mentone Cemetery.

Calling is from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
