Joan Tinsley Slater Kerby Dutkus, 83, of 900 Provident Drive, Warsaw, died at 7 p.m. Sept. 24, 2009, in Mason Health and Rehab, Warsaw.

She was born July 27, 1926, in Duncan, Okla., to Worley Logan and Hazel Margaret Williams Tinsley. She married Oliver Farren Slater of Warren, then Walter Lee Kerby of Montpelier, and Frank Joseph Dutkus. All preceded her in death.

She worked mainly with restaurants and nursing homes. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Warsaw, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 5582. She graduated from Van Buren High School in 1944. She lived most of her life in South Whitley, Milford and Warsaw.

Surviving are two daughters, Gloria Bess, Columbia City, and Mary Ceballos, Warsaw; five sons: William Kerby, Ohio; Dale Slater, Columbia City; Paul Slater, Azores, Portugal; and Jerry and Terry Kerby, both of Warsaw; a brother, James Tinsley, Fremont; two stepdaughters, Phyllis and Charlotte Slater, both of Huntington; three stepsons: Thomas Dutkus, Idaho; Randy Dutkus, California; and Terry Mathias, Huntington; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and seven step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with Pastor Skip Hartmann officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton.

Calling is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
