SYRACUSE - Jimmy D. "Jim" Boyer, 73, of Syracuse, died at 3:55 p.m. March 6, 2011, in I.U. Goshen Hospital, Goshen.

He was born Jan. 23, 1938, in New Paris, to Harold Owen and Lottie Estelle Vance Boyer. On Sept. 16, 1960, in Syracuse, he married Carol L. Wogoman, who died Dec. 7, 1999.

He was a lifetime Elkhart/Kosciusko county area resident and attended New Paris Public Schools. He retired from Nuway Construction, Goshen, and formerly worked at Liberty Homes, Commodore Homes and Viking Industries, all in Syracuse.

Surviving are a daughter, Belinda (and spouse Warren) Hickman, North Webster; two sons, Brent Boyer, Syracuse, and Brian (and spouse Tina) Boyer, Knoxville, Tenn.; a foster son, Bruce (and spouse Becky) Rookstool, Huron, Ohio; three sisters, Sue (and spouse Sam) Keene; Jane (and spouse Delbert "Smokey") Schmucker and Belle Bigler, all of Goshen; and two brothers, Jack (and spouse Linda) Boyer, Pensacola, Fla., and Bill (and spouse Bonnie) Boyer, South Bend. He was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse, with Bruce Rookstool officiating. Burial will be in Syracuse Cemetery.

Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
