He was born Feb. 4, 1935, in Elkhart County. On March 14, 1970, in Jellico, Tenn., he married Helen Kohli, who died June 13, 1998.
He retired as a brick mason from Local 4 Union, South Bend. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. He was a life member of Nappanee American Legion Post 154; Bremen Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8972; and Elkhart Moose Lodge 599.
Surviving are two stepsons, Randy and Jeff Hepler, both of Nappanee; and two step-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by a step-granddaughter.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, with Pastor Marvin Engbrecht officiating. Burial will be in Union Center Cemetery with a military graveside service by members of Nappanee American Legion.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.
