Jesse E. Dungan, 103, of Warsaw since 2003, and formerly of Danville, Ill., passed away at 10:25 a.m. Dec. 7, 2012, in The Oaks, Columbia City.
He was born March 21, 1909, in Huntington, to Clyde and Verda Humbert Dungan. On Feb. 26, 1929, in Huntington, he married Doris F. Wiley, who preceded him in death Jan. 27, 2005.
In 1974 he retired as an office manager for Kraft Foods, Kendallville and Danville, where he worked for 42 years. He was a member of the Danville Masonic Lodge and Central Christian Church of Danville. He enjoyed taking long drives to find new places for lunch, and enjoyed a beer or two every now and again. His favorite pastime was working puzzle books and was proud of the fact that he could complete the puzzles without crossing out the word clues or the numbers. He took no medications and still lived alone until one year prior to the time of his death.
Also surviving are two sons, Jack (and spouse Wanda) Dungan and Michael Dungan, all of Danville; two daughters, Dorette J. Hess, Huntertown, and Marilyn J. (and spouse Don) Rice, Warsaw; 18 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Dungan, and two sons, Robert E. and James L. Dungan.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Monday (Dec. 10 is his wife’s birthday) at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. Burial will be at Star of Hope Cemetery, Warren, at a later date.
Calling is two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
