Jesse Butler, 85, of Warsaw,  went home to be with the Lord at 6 p.m. Dec. 5, 2012, in Mason Health and Rehab, Warsaw.
He was born April 14, 1927, in Buladean, N.C., to Mitchell and Nancy McKinney Butler. On Dec. 7, 1963, in Adrian, Mich., he married the love of his life, Roxie N. Holbrook Prater, who died Sep. 9, 1996.
After graduation he joined the U.S. Navy, serving his country during World War II on the U.S.S. LST42. After his discharge he moved to Adrian. In 1947 he worked for Stubnitz & Green, which was later called Johnson Controls. He worked on a line making car seats and later delivered car seats to auto plants all around the Detroit, Mich., area. Due to an injury he retired in 1982 after 33 years of service.
In 1987 he and his wife moved to Warsaw. He loved the Lord and was a member of Harvest Community Church, Pierceton, and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Adrian.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda Prater, Winona Lake; a son, Jesse M. (and spouse Stephanie) Butler, Dexter, Mich.; two grandsons, Adam Prater, Winona Lake, and Jesse M. Butler III, Dexter, Mich.; and a sister, Rosie Sergeant, Houghton Lake, Mich. He also was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, with Pastor Glenn Hall officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with military rites by members of American Legion Post 49 and VFW 1126, both in Warsaw.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
