NEW CARLISLE - Jerry "Mike" Kennedy, 70, of New Carlisle, and formerly of Warsaw, died at 11:33 p.m. June 3, 2009, in his residence, following a lengthy illness.

He was born Jan. 10, 1939, in Warsaw, to Charles Raymond and Mae Elizabeth Taylor Kennedy. On June 30, 1962, in Warsaw, he married Betty Lou Krockenberger, who died Aug. 4, 1997.

He retired in 1992 from the U.S. Postal Service, where he served as post master in New Carlisle. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Warsaw; Hill & Dale Men's Club; State Line Bass Anglers Association; and the American Legion, North Webster. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving as a specialist 4th class.

Surviving are three daughters, Lisa B. Johnson and Jana M. (and spouse Dan) Bradley, all of New Carlisle, and Jennifer L. (and spouse Greg) Reith, Fort Wayne; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Sonya (and spouse Jon) Miller and Diane (and spouse Rex) Hogan, all of Warsaw. He was preceded in death by a sister.

A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Kaniewski Funeral Home, New Carlisle. Cremation has taken place.

Calling is from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
