He was born Nov. 16, 1936, in Anderson, to Jesse H. and Edna N. Robbins Garris. On June 11, 1960, he married Ilant Howard, who survives.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines. He graduated from Claypool High School in 1955, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Milford. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and being with people. He retired from General Tire, Wabash, after 33 years. He was a member of Free United Baptist Church, Sidney.
Also surviving are a daughter, Angie Garris, Silver Lake; 10 grandchildren: Trevor, Tanner, Jessie, Joey, Val and Holly Garris; Heidi Ulrey; Don, Kasey and Haley Chilcutt. He was preceded in death by two sons, Jerry Lee Garris, who died in 2006, and Tim Garris, who died in 2010; one brother; and one sister.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Free United Baptist Church, Ind. 13, Sidney, with Pastor Ward Etsie Allen officiating. Burial is in Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake.
Calling is from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Arrangements are entrusted to McKee Mortuary, North Manchester.
