Jerry C. Hudson Sr., 81, of 1406 Camelot Drive, Winona Lake,  passed away at 2:55 a.m. May 26, 2012, in Grace Village Health Care, Winona Lake.

He was born Jan. 11, 1931, in Warsaw, to William Franklin Sr. and Alta Arminta Kercher Hudson. On Sept. 28, 1952, in Sidney, he married Leafy Jane Plant, who survives.

He was a 1949 graduate of Beaver Dam High School, after which he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1950-54. He was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County, where he attended Riverview Community Church, Tippecanoe. He worked for 37-1/2 years as the midwestern art director for LM Berry & Co., Warsaw, and was founder and owner of Signs & Designs by Hudson, working there from 1990-2002. He also was a former board member of the Bell Aircraft Museum, Mentone, and a life member of American Legion Post 49, Warsaw. He and his wife moved to Grace Village Retirement Community – Robin Hood Estates in 2006.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife; a daughter, Honey (and spouse Larry) Kuhn, Mentone; three sons: Jerry “Bud” C. Jr. (and spouse Wendy) Hudson,  Cary, N.C.; Darrell (and spouse Kathleen) Hudson,  Washington, D.C.; and David (and spouse Ami) Hudson, Mentone; 10 grandchildren: Nicole (and spouse Peter) Hatfield and Jessica (and spouse Sta’s) Daszkiewicz, all of Indianapolis; Aimee Hudson, Grand Rapids, Mich.; Craig (and spouse Anmarie) Kuhn, St. Joseph, Mich.; Adam (and spouse Ericka) Hudson, Bourbon; Angela Hudson, Washington, D.C.; Erica (and spouse Gregory) Neher, Fort Wayne; Sgt. David Hudson Jr., Fort Stewart, Ga.; Alicia Hudson, Richmond, Va.; Jocelyn Hudson, Bloomington; four step-grandchildren: Tyler, Libby, Robert and Emily; and seven great-grandchildren: Jacob and Tatum Hudson, Tessa and Maxwell Kuhn, Abigail and Gavin Hatfield and Hudson Neher.  He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Earl Eugene Hudson and William F. Hudson Jr.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, officiated by Pastor Rod Ruberg. Burial will be in Mentone Cemetery with military rites by members of American Legion Post 49 and Veterans of Foreign Wars 1126, both in Warsaw, and the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard.

Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
