More than 51 years ago, Kathy Becilla, an attractive, petite, awestruck high school senior-to-be began dating Richard Jeffreys, a handsome, tall, crewcut-sporting first year graduate student at West Virginia University.
As they courted throughout the school year, love bloomed. He became involved in many of Kathy’s senior high school activities. Three months after her graduation from St. Francis High School and over a year after they began dating, they were married Aug. 28, 1965, in St. Theresa Catholic Church, in Morgantown, W. Va., by Father John Mueller, thus beginning their journey and family.
In 1969, following his graduation, the Ph.D. and his family of four, with the addition of Douglass and Rachel, they moved to Ardmore, Okla., where he pursued a two-year post doctoral experience in cancer research. From Ardmore, their journey took them to St. Louis, Mo., where he served as a professor at Missouri Baptist College. In the fall of 1975, the family moved to Warsaw and he joined the faculty of Grace College and Seminary for 35 of 40 years of ministry at Grace, he served as a professor of biochemistry, Chair of the Department of Biology and Health Profession Advisor. While he recently retired from Grace, Kathy continues to work with Grossnickle Eye Center where she has been for the last 24 years. This follows 15 years of employment with Kosciusko Community Hospital.
They have two grown children, Douglass (and spouse Leslie) Jeffreys and Rachel (and spouse Jeff) Grose, all of Warsaw. They also have seven grandchildren: Krysta (and spouse Adam) Lenon, Andrew (and spouse Hanna) Jeffreys, and Brenna Jeffreys, and Lucas, Derek, Jack and Lauren Grose. They also have two great-grandchildren, Adam and Jacob Lenon.
They are active in the Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church where Kathy has been involved in the children’s ministries for many years. She had the delightful experience teaching all seven of her grandchildren in Sunday school. In 2012, she traveled to the Czech Republic with a group of women in support of Grace Missionaries.
For most of the 40 years in the area, Rich has been involved in choral music including church choir and Lakeland Community Choir.
They both enjoy reading, gardening, walking and attending their grandchildren’s activities. They also enjoy quiet drives through the beautiful Indiana countryside.
While the 50-year journey for their family was fraught with some hills and valleys, including some painful medical challenges, their love for each other, their family and their Lord continues to grow. They feel that their original intent of developing a lifestyle which would be biblically based and be expected to persist through the challenges of their married life has been successful.
The Lord has blessed them with a number of family and friends in the Warsaw-Winona Lake area as well as great, loving church family. They believe that the Lord has intervened in Rich’s health a number of times and are grateful particularly for the 15 years of being a cancer survivor. As for their journey, it is Soli Deo Gloria – for the glory of God alone.
The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a trip east to visit family and friends in West Virginia to Lancaster, Pa. for the presentation of “Joseph” at the Sight and Sound Theater. They also traveled   to Gettysburg, the location of their honeymoon, but this time as mature adults with a sobering awareness of the sacrifices made by many families in the development of the United Sates.[[In-content Ad]]

Get To Know The Team: Warsaw Captains Q&A
Earlier this week, I had the privilege of going to a Warsaw football practice and speaking with four of the team’s five captains. With so much having been written in recent weeks about their performance on the field, and rightfully so, I wanted to peel back the curtain a bit and ask them some questions about themselves. Each of the four players were asked the same eight questions. Below are each of their answers.

Kosciusko County
2025 Meetings

Town of Claypool
Additional Appropriations

KCCRVC
