Jay Dee Lewis, 75, died at 11:15 p.m. Nov. 12, 2008, in his residence on Chapman Lake after an extended illness.

He was born Oct. 22, 1933, in Muncie, to Joseph Leroy and Naomi Madeline Jennings Lewis. On Oct. 26, 1953, he married Judith Ann Ball, who survives. The couple recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.

He retired from ABB, formerly Westinghouse, in Muncie, where he served as an AFL/CIO union representative for most of his employment. He was a past president of the Local United Electrical Workers. He was a 1952 graduate of Muncie Central High School and attended Ball State University. He was a Golden Gloves Boxing champion. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Also surviving are two sons, David L. (and spouse Cindy) Lewis, Yorktown, and Dennis R. (and spouse Doris) Lewis, Warsaw; a daughter, Linda (and spouse Jeff) Hoyt, Yorktown; six granddaughters: Amy Savage, Mackenzie Bute, Hollie Olithant, Samantha Lewis, Sarah Hoyt and Lindsey Hoyt; three great-grandsons: Ashtyn Cable, Jager Bute and Alexander Savage; a sister, Madeleine Faith Wheeler, St. Louis, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Naomi Lewis; six brothers: Joseph Leroy Jr. "Roy" Lewis, Buddy Lewis, Laddie Lewis, Sonny Lewis, Carl Lewis and Robert Lewis; and three sisters: Betty Jane Freeman, Hope Brown and Caroline Sue Charity Lewis.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Gant Funeral Home, Yorktown, with Pastor Paul Vise officiating. Burial will be in Hawk Cemetery, north of Yorktown.

Calling is from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and one hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home.

Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, is in charge of local arrangements.
