Jarrett Wins First Race

KANSAS CITY, KS - Capitalizing on pit stops and patience from 25-year-old driver Jason Jarrett, the Warsaw-based ML Motorsports team picked up its first ARCA RE/MAX Series win Saturday in the BPU 200 at the brand new Kansas Speedway.
"Everybody blistered their tires, it was a bad deal on Hoosier's part," ML Motorsports crew chief Scott Eldridge said. "Patience and pit stops won us the race. We had killer pit stops, and Jason was patient all day."
Jarrett's No. 67 Mary Louise Miller-owned Monte Carlo passed points leader Frank Kimmel, who earlier in the day won the NASCAR Winston West 100-mile race, with three laps to go. Kimmel held on to finish second, two seconds behind Jarrett.
Tim Steele, Ed Berrier and Andy Belmont rounded out the top five. South Bend LaSalle graduate Ryan Newman, who last week sat on the pole in NASCAR's Coca Cola 600, sat on the pole in Saturday's ARCA race but finished 20th after a right front tire went down, causing him to make heavy contact with the wall.
Under caution, Jarrett pitted with 16 laps to go, entering pit road in fourth place and hitting the track in second.
"We had four awesome pit stops, and we gained spots every time," Eldridge said. "The last time we came in fourth and went out second, and that was only because Belmont only took two tires. We still almost beat him out. Jason and Frank both had fast cars, and they were both racing real hard. After that last stop, we knew we didn't have to save the tires. Frank got by us, and Jason wanted to get him back. Kansas is a place where you can run high or low. Jason got by him on the outside and we got the win."
In all, Kimmel led 80 of the 134 laps, while Jarrett, whose crew did pit stops for third-place Andy Hillenburg in the Winston West Series race, led a total of seven laps.
The ML Motorsports team, which is currently third in the season points standings, will be in action again Saturday at Michigan International Speedway. Jarrett, son of NASCAR veteran Dale Jarrett, leads the points race for ARCA Rookie of the Year. For more information on the team, visit them on the net at www.mlracing.com or at www.jasonjarrett.com.
