LONG POND, Penn. - As jubilant as he has been the last two weeks, 25-year-old ML Motorsports driver Jason Jarrett found it hard to smile Saturday in the Pennsylvania mountains.

"It's kind of hard to smile right now," Jarrett said. "The past two weeks have been so good to us. Everyone's gonna have these days, I just hope our's are over now."

After winning the inaugural race at Kansas Speedway two weeks ago and setting a track record at Michigan International last week, the third-generation driver from Hickory, N.C., finished 22nd in Saturday's ARCA RE/MAX Series 200-mile event at Pocono International Raceway.

Near the halfway point of the 80-lap event, Jarrett's No. 67 Biomet/Damon RV Monte Carlo was slowed by engine problems. Jarrett guessed it to be either a valve spring or rocker arm.

"I got in the gas and gave it some throttle. It just wasn't there," Jarrett said.

In all, nearly a dozen engines were blown this weekend at Pocono International Raceway, including two by current points leader and defending season champion Frank Kimmel.

Michigan native Tim Steele took the checkered flag, his eighth win in 15 career attempts at the 2.5-mile triangular track.

Steele's No. 16 Ford sat on the point with three laps to go when rain began to fall on the track. The race finished under caution, giving Steele his 39th career ARCA win.

North Carolina driver Josh Richeson, nephew of Winston Cup racer Brett Bodine, finished second, followed by pole-sitter Stuart Kirby, North Carolina's Mike Swaim Jr. and Kimmel.

Steele, a three-time series champion, led 50 of the 80 laps. During a cycle of pit stops, Jarrett's No. 67 led lap 40.

Saturday's event was Jarrett's first experience at Pocono. He and his Warsaw-based stock car team will race there again July 28.

"We learned a lot for when we come back here next month," Jarrett, the son of Winston Cup star Dale Jarrett, said. "We didn't test here, so that's what we kind of used this for. I think we learned a lot."

Jarrett and the ML Motorsports crew is currently fourth in the season-point standings, while Jarrett leads the chase for Rookie of the Year.

Kimmel, a Jeffersonville native, leads the points chase with 2,750, followed by Steele (2,695), Andy Belmont (2,325), Jarrett (2,195) and Ron Cox (2,100).

The next race on the ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule is Friday at Memphis Motorsports Park.
