Janet M. Smith, 79, of Warsaw, passed away at 4:49 p.m. Aug. 5, 2012, in Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.

She was born Aug. 28, 1932, in Greenfield, to Edgar and Emma Rollin Ashby. On Aug. 16, 1950, in Anderson, she married Harold “Hal” Smith, who died  June 14, 2007.

A resident of Warsaw since 1950, she worked for JoMac Industries and then Sun Metal Corp., where she worked for 15 years, retiring in August 1994. She was  a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

Surviving are three children: Deborah “Deb” (and spouse Phil) Brown, Warsaw; Peg (and spouse Russ) Rainwater, Spring Hill, Kan.; and Mike (and spouse Jan) Smith, Fort Wayne; a brother, Ted (and spouse Connie) Ashby, Alexandria; eight grandchildren: Kevin (and spouse Cindy) Brown, Katrina (and spouse Mike) Albertson and Korey (and spouse Sarah) Brown, all of Warsaw; Tanya (and spouse Trent) Gordon, Wellsville, Kan.; and Tara Smith, Jamie (and spouse Josh) Miller, and Cassie and Chelsey Smith, all of Fort Wayne; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

No calling is planned.
