COLUMBIA CITY - James Robert Lude, 71, of Whitley County, died at 9 a.m. April 24, 2007, in his residence.

He was born Feb. 16, 1936, in Craigville, to Robert Samuel and Aldine Gerber Lude. On June 30, 1956, he married Helen Marie Woods, who died Oct. 26, 2001.

He graduated from Elmhurst High School and lived in Fort Wayne until 1972, when he moved to Richland Township. A farmer and a carpenter, he worked at Zollner Pistons for 34 years, retiring in 1997. He was a U.S. Army veteran, attended Columbia City Church of the Nazarene, and was a member of Farm Bureau and AARP.

Surviving are four sons: Timothy and Terry Lude, both of Larwill; Doug Lude, Auburn; and Daniel Lude, Columbia City; two daughters, Natalie Green, Warsaw, and Mrs. Chad (Nicole) Brown, Columbia City; 11 grandchildren; a sister, Edith Barrone, Fort Wayne; and two brothers, Theodore Lude, Larwill, and Leonard Lude, Fremont. He was preceded in death by a son, a brother and a sister.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, with the Rev. Thomas Beers officiating. Burial will be in Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne.

Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
