BOURBON – James Lester Miner, 87, a lifetime resident of Etna Green, died at 7:05 a.m. April 23, 2013, in Kosciusko Community Hospital.
He was born April 29, 1925, in Etna Green, to Bram and Ruth Heisler Miner, who preceded him in death. On Sept. 14, 1951, he married Mary Beth Shinn, who survives after 61 years of marriage.
He was the fifth of 10 children. He was a graduate of Etna Green High School class of 1943. He was a member of the armed forces, serving in the Navy during World War II aboard the USS Tingey from 1943 to 1946. Retiring from the work force in 1990, he enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, and traveling. He was a member of Etna Green United Methodist Church where he had served many years on the administrative board.
Also surviving are two daughters, Suzannah Kuhn, Peru, and Patti Miner, Warsaw; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Miner, Warsaw. He was further blessed with his seven grandchildren: Jennifer Scott, Tohnya Miner-Moser, Amber Kuhn, Tiffany (and spouse Duane) Cleaver, Jana (and spouse Rick) Still, Devan (and spouse Ryan) Sands, and Dustin Kuhn; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two sisters, Mary Hoffer, Indianapolis, and Jane (and spouse Tom) Ebbing, Albion; and a brother, Dean (and spouse Jill) Miner, Warsaw. He was preceded in death by a son, Randy Miner, who passed away July 5, 2012, and six siblings.
Services will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon, IN 46504. Burial will follow in Etna Green Cemetery, with military gravesite services by the Warsaw American Legion of which he was a member.
A celebration of life will follow at 4 p.m. Friday in the funeral home with Pastor Dennis Bollenbacher officiating.
Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
