James Leo Elrod, 71, of 411 Wooster Road, Winona Lake, passed away at 2:55 p.m. March 19, 2011, in Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne.
He was born Sept. 8, 1939, in Lepanto, Ark., to Cleo and Cornelius Smith Elrod. On May 3, 1965, he married Dorothy Sue Hackworth, who survives.
He served in the U.S. Army and lived in Kosciusko County for the past 46 years, where he retired as a machinist from Dalton Corp., Warsaw. After retirement he was co-owner of Elrod Daycares, Winona Lake and Warsaw. He was of Methodist faith and a member of the Harley Owners Group.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife; two daughters, Michele Elrod, Winona Lake, and Alisha (and spouse Charles) Elrod-Wagner, Warsaw; a son, Derek (and spouse Kelli) Elrod, Winona Lake; three grandchildren; three sisters: Helen Glass, Portageville, Mo.; Pat (and spouse John) Manns, New Madrid, Mo.; and Peggy (and spouse Ardin) Simmons, Portageville, Mo); two brothers, Waddell (and spouse Lesby) Elrod, Texarkana, Ark., and Joe (and spouse Joyce) Elrod, Portageville. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, James Christopher Elrod.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, with Pastor Bob Haywood officiating. A service will also be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Carter Funeral Home, Prestonsburg, Ky. Burial will be in Jack Arnett Cemetery, Prestonsburg.
Calling is from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Redpath-Fruth.
