He was born Aug. 8, 1931, in Fort Wayne, to Sylvester and Eva Lyons Yaney.
He was employed by the National Board of Korean War Veterans Association, and was the producer of the television show “Tell America,” Fort Wayne. He retired from Fort Wayne Community Schools in 1992 after 26 years of service.
He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps in Korea from 1953 to 1961. He attended Akron United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his companion, Dorothy Medley, North Manchester; three sons: James (and spouse Teresa) Yaney Jr., Indianapolis; Lon (and spouse Angel) Yaney, Pierceton; and Lynn (and Melanie Christensen) Yaney, Kiln, Miss.; a daughter, Bernadette (and spouse Jon) Yaney-Clark, North Manchester; four grandchildren: Jared Michael Christiansen, Kiln; Tiffany Clark, North Manchester; Brittani Kinnear and Malicia Kinghorn, both of Lancaster, Ohio; and two great-grandchildren, Kenzi Zimmerman, Edgar, Wis., and Marissa Yaney, Wausau, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Leslie Yaney; three brothers: Joseph Wesley, Richard and Robert Yaney; and a grandson, James G. Yaney.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at McKee Mortuary, 1401 Ind. 114W, North Manchester, with Pastor J.P. Freeman officiating. Burial is in Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
Calling is from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
