HUNTINGTON – James E. Holzinger, 87, passed away Oct. 23, 2015, at Parkview Huntington Hospital.
He was born July 28, 1928, in Huntington, to Francis and Bertha Hummer Holzinger. In 1953, he married Norma J. Young, who passed away May 21, 2015.
He was a 1946 graduate of Huntington Catholic High School. He served in the United States Army in Korea and the Naval Reserve. He retired from the Huntington City Fire Department in 1978, with 24 years of service, holding the rank of assistant chief. After retirement, he worked for City Beverage. He was also the owner of Holzinger Electric.
He was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Huntington, Knights of Columbus, VFW Post 2689 and North Webster American Legion Post. He bowled on the K of C team for years and was an avid golfer at Clear Creek Golf Course. He loved hunting and fishing in Minnesota.
Surviving are a son, Thomas E. (and spouse Pamela) Holzinger, Roanoke; a daughter, Sue J. (and spouse Steve) Ward, North Webster; two sisters, Martha Murphy, Huntington, and Mary Eagleson, New Haven; five grandchildren: Nick Holzinger, Craig (and spouse Emily) Holzinger, Parker Holzinger, Ashley Ward and Nicole (and spouse Trent) Nabinger; and four great-grandchildren: Jaxon Nabinger, Colton Nabinger, Lilia Holzinger and Ethan Ward. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Mark E. Holzinger; one sister, Hilda Norris, and an infant sister, Mildred Elizabeth Holzinger.
Recitation of the Rosary will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 860 Cherry St., Huntington, with Fr. Ron Rieder, OFM Cap., officiating. Burial will be in M. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington.
Calling is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday. McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, is in charge of arrangements.
