SYRACUSE - James D. Rossell, 88, of Syracuse, died at 7:30 a.m. April 4, 2007, in his residence.

He was born June 4, 1918, in Dayton, Ohio, to Ralph and Suzanna Daut Rossell. On July 12, 1941, he married Alice Byers, who survives.

He was a supervisor at GMC, Allison Division, Indianapolis, retiring after 42 years. He graduated from Arsenal Technical High School, Indianapolis, in 1936. He was a sergeant major in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a member of American Legion, Indianapolis.

Also surviving are two sons, Theodore Rossell, Greenfield, and Thomas Rossell, Syracuse; a daughter, Suzanna Steenbergen, California; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, a sister and two grandsons.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Harris Chapel, Syracuse, with Suzanna Steenburgen officiating, and with full military rights. A committal service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Hendryx Mortuary, New Palestine. Burial will be at New Palestine Cemetery.

Calling is from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Syracuse, and one hour prior to committal service Friday at Hendryx Mortuary, New Palestine.
