He was born May 19, 1922, in Cullimer, to James and Lena Crim Aughinbaugh. In 1945, in Gary, he married Betty Smith, who survives.
A World War II veteran, he served as a forward observer in the 30th Division of the 118th Field Artillery, where he was awarded two Bronze Stars and an Oak Leaf Cluster Medal. He was in the Battle of the Bulge. He retired from General Telephone Co. after 30 years, and was a supervisor of lineman crews. He co-owned T&B Construction Co. with his son Terry. He bought and sold real estate in the local area. He was a member of Scott United Methodist Church.
Also surviving are four children: James (and spouse Judy) Aughinbaugh, Houston, Texas; Terry (and spouse MaryAnn) Aughinbaugh, Cadiz; Noreen (and spouse Bill) Taylor, Reynoldsburg, Ohio; and Luanne (and spouse James) Tate, Athens, Ala.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Thelma Jacobs, South Whitley. He was preceded in death by several half siblings.
A family service was held Dec. 16 in Athens, Ala. A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Jan. 13 at Scott United Methodist Church, Cadiz, Ohio.[[In-content Ad]]
