LEBANON – James Arthur Watterson, 87, of 10735 E. Ind. 32, Zionsville, died of natural causes  June 13, 2012, in his residence.

He was born July 21, 1924, in Mitchell, to  Charles and Nora Collins Watterson. On Oct. 18, 1952, in Kirklin, he married Eddie Lee Gamble, who died April 23, 2007.

Following school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was attached to the 36th Combat Engineering battalion in the European Theater, where he was active from 1943-46 serving in England, France and Austria. He was present at many campaigns including the landing on Omaha Beach in Normandy. He was a member of the enlisted Reserves Corp. of Engineers from 1946-49, and later served in the Korean War until retiring on March 31, 1952, after serving his country for eight years. He was a life member of Disabled American Veterans.

He resided at the present Zionsville address the past 15 years. Previously, he and his wife resided in Arcadia and Grandview. He worked primarily for Gunn Plumbing and Heating and Burton Mechanical Contracting directing construction of many schools from 1957-89.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, he enjoyed his family. He attended Prairie Baptist Church, Noblesville, and most recently attended Lighthouse Baptist Church, Lebanon.

Surviving are six children: Sandra (and spouse Ray) Ousley, Warsaw; Joyce Judd, Leesburg; Rita Stout, Indianapolis; Rebecca (and spouse Chip) Otte, Brownsburg; Charles Watterson, Zionsville; and James M. (and spouse Tina) Watterson, Cambridge City; a brother, Isom Watterson; four sisters: Mary Ruth Atchison, Madge Reynolds, Lorene Morrow and Norma Tinchel; eight grandchildren: Charla Reyes, Warsaw; Kevin Judd, Leesburg; Aaron and Stephan Stout, both of Indianapolis; Kristen Watterson, Greenwood; Nathan Watterson; New Castle; and Ashton and Ethan Otte, both of Brownsburg; two step-grandchildren, Christina and Clint Ousley, both of Fort Wayne; three great-grandchildren, Kierra and Ryley Judd, both of Leesburg, and Reina Stout, Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Noble, Floyd, Lester and John Watterson; two sisters, Clara Bryant and Adah Schmidt; and a grandchild, Sara Watterson.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Myers Chapel of Memories, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon, with the Rev. Merv McNair officiating. Burial will be in Rosston Cemetery, Boone County.

Calling is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
