James Albert Evanatz, 66, of 2554 Ind. 13N, Pierceton, died at 11:20 a.m. Nov. 8, 2008, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.

He was born July 13, 1942, in East Chicago, to Joe James and Alice Marie Chalberg Evanatz.

Living in Kosciusko County for 15 years, he retired from management of food services. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1962, serving until his honorable discharge in 1966.

Surviving are two daughters, Jennifer (and spouse Mark) Long, Hobart, and Melissa Evanatz (and fiance Joe Medina), Portage; a son, Gregory (and spouse Kim) Evanatz, Schererville; 11 grandchildren; a brother, Robert Evanatz, Pierceton; and a sister, Patricia (and spouse Todd) Mossburg, Pierceton. He was preceded in death by a sister and a granddaughter.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Salvation Army Fellowship Hall, Warsaw, with Ken Locke and Captain Jody Dalberg officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. (CST) Friday at Evergreen Memorial Park, Hobart.

No calling is planned.
