NORTH MANCHESTER - Jackie L. Ferrell, 75, of North Manchester, died at 9:34 p.m. Feb. 15, 2011, in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.

He was born Oct. 10, 1935, in Roanoke, to Leonard and Mary Reimer Ferrell. He was raised by his stepfather, Emery First. On March 28, 1973, he married Janice R. Kistler, who survives.

He retired as a lineman from General Telephone in 1996, after 30 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Korea. He graduated from Andrews High School in 1954, and was a member of Moose Lodge 1518, North Manchester.

Also surviving are five sons: Mike Ferrell, Citra, Fla.; Tony Ferrell, Jacksonville, Fla.; Rick (and spouse Dee) Grindle, Wabash; Jim (and spouse Kelly) Grindle, Markle; and Jeff Grindle, Pierceton; five daughters: Rachal Townsend, Columbia, Tenn.; Traci Brubaker and Heide (and spouse Kevin D.) Marcum, all of North Manchester; Deb (and spouse Terry) Hudson, Silver Lake; and Jill (and spouse Kris) Slater, Sidney; 23 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Friday at McKee Mortuary, North Manchester, with Pastor J.P. Freeman officiating.

Calling is from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
