AKRON – Jack R. Rudd, 64, rural Rochester, died at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 30, 2014, at his residence after being in failing health since last October.
He was born Dec. 12, 1949, in Salyersville, Ky., to Hurndon and Finettie Craft Rudd. In June 1972, he married Monica “Susie” Barnett Rudd, who died in 1983. He then married Vickie Voorhees Rudd, who survives in Rochester.
He was a heavy equipment operator Gradex Inc. He went to Akron High School. He served the country in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He was a member of the American Legion, the VFW and the Eagles Lodge, all of Rochester.
He enjoyed watching NASCAR; his favorite driver was Ricky Rudd and most recently Dale Jr. If he was watching TV, it was a western, and his favorite actors were John Wayne and Clint Eastwood. He also liked camping and fishing.
Also surviving are a daughter, Tesha (and spouse Russell) Pettit, Middlebury; two sons, Ryan (and spouse Melissa), Rudd, Odessa, Texas, and Jeremy (and spouse Kristy) Rudd, Bluffton; four stepchildren; 11 grandchildren; 17 step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Marcella (and spouse Keith) Boyd, Karen Clark, Kathy (and spouse Ron) Moore, Debbie (and spouse Daryl) Powell, all of Rochester; two brothers, David (and spouse Linda) Rudd, Rochester, and Bernard (and spouse Katie) Rudd, Denver; several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Daisey; a brother, Bob Rudd; and a brother-in-law, Russell Clark.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with the Rev. Amber Karkosky-Litten officiating. Burial is in Hoover Cemetery, Athens, with military rites by the Fulton County Honor Guard.
Calling is from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
